Elle Decor sponsored a concept house this summer in NYC. I always love a good designer show house but many of them are really traditional or each room has its own unique style that doesn't really flow with the rest of the house. This 'concept' house isn't anything like that. They designed 2 separate apartments with distinctly different styles. The first apartment is my favorite, a somewhat glamorous mid century modern inspired space with a stunning color palette. Check out these pics below from the September issue of Elle Decor.
I love the mix of functionality in this living room. A really comfy sofa and day bed flank either side of the room but then they've added in a small round dining table near the daybed, which could be used to dine at or for a work table. The 4 bookcases on the far wall create a great space for displaying art, cool accessories or just great book storage. All of this adds up to an amazing multi-purpose space that just so happens to be featuring a beautiful color palette of yellows, blacks, browns and other neutrals that I am currently adoring.
The iconic arc lamp makes this daybed table combo even more of a unique multi-functional spot.
I am a little torn on hanging art work on a column like they have here. I have a couple spaces like this in my condo and I cant quite decide if I like this look or not. The art work extends into open space. What do you think? Does it look messy? Or artfully eclectic?
You can see how the space transitions over to the dining area which is really an eat in kitchen.
Check it out from another angle. This chandelier is hands down one of my favorites. I love how simple and yet completely glamorous it is. The clear crystals read white and beautifully balance the white of the Saarinen table in this space. All together the contrast of light and dark colors in this space is beautiful.
You may have noticed that many of the furnishings from this space are from Room and Board who was one of the main sponsors for this event. I love that although many of them did come from the same store, there is still a decidedly eclectic look to the space. A similar one to what I am hoping to achieve in my condo space.
The second apartment design for this concept house was is a bit more natural and organic in style.
Check out the cool room divider they created here. A console with a mirror that extends almost all the way up to the ceiling.
I love the light airiness of the bedroom. Whites and grays with a pop of orange keep this small space very open and make it feel much larger than it probably is.
The kitchen is interesting. They used vintage newspapers as a backsplash. I am not sure what I think about this. Its definitely not my taste, but a very unique treatment that adds a lot of interest. The artwork displayed on the countertop is also a fun and unexpected element.
What do you think of these apartment show houses? Which do you like better?
